November 11: Lest We Forget
This is the first Remembrance Day that I am in Canada for in a long time and I went to the ceremonies at the Calgary Military Museum. I had forgotten how meaningful this day was to me. Growing up as an Air Cadet I was part of these ceremonies - it was my squadron's band playing the Last Post and Reveille; our Colour Guard carrying the flags; me laying the wreaths. This was a strangely emotional day: I have never served in the military, I don't know many Canadians who have fought in a war and I certainly don't know any who have died; and yet this day is as poignant to me as if I had. Even though I only played military growing up, I think I will always be military at heart.
