May 24: Fancy footwork and jingle dresses
Today I watched a competition Pow Wow at the University of Northern BC in Prince George. It was the first time I have ever been to a Pow Wow, and it was totally cool. It was very captivating. And colourful. And cultural.
It made me a little envious of those who come from cultures with ... well ... culture. I mean, let's face the facts here: On one side I am a third-generation Quebecer with Irish and British roots and on the other side I am sixth-generation Canadian with Scottish roots. So ... I am ... really ... white. I believe I am what one might consider "culturally-challenged." The entirety of my cultural identity can be summed up in three foods (tourtiere, poutine, yorkshire pudding) and one vernacular anomaly (I still call a bedroom dresser a bureau).
I think I am going to have to move to Bolivia or maybe Iceland, so that when I say I am Canadian, it sounds exotic and when I bake people chocolate chip cookies and sport a wide variety of t-shirts and jeans, people think it a unique cultural display.
Note: I would just like you all to know what I went through to bring this post to you.

Oh, and yes, I needed to coax the spider back onto my computer afterward in order to get the picture ...
