October 28: Only 91 kph?
The consensus? This sport is a freakin' blast!
Today was my second day on the track, for a total of five runs now from the women's luge start. It's hard to explain what it feels like to be shooting down this track at 90 kph, pulling 3 Gs on some of the corners, but surprisingly enough, it isn't scary.
I was so worried that it was going to turn out to be a mental battle sport, like standing at the top of a building each time, and trying convince yourself, against all rationality, to jump. But the only thought that crosses your mind when you get to the bottom (other then "Wow, I didn't expect my head to slam into the ice like that on corner 12.") is: I wanna go faster!
Tomorrow we get to ... ! It will be our first time from the very top of the track, just like in a race. We'll start off with the school instructors pushing us off, but on our second and third runs we'll get to run and jump on the sled. And hopefully break 100 kph!
Stay tuned ...
