December 2: Meet Team Canada ...

Since we were all dolled up in our fancy uniforms for the race today, the four girls on the team decided to capture a few moments on camera afterward. This all started out very civilized with a lovely picture overlooking the Lake Placid Valley, colour-coordinated and symmetrical. From left to right: yours truly; Micaela, our coach Duff, Darla and Shannon.

	Darla hails from Calgary and is our team disciplinarian. Think you can mess with her? Take one look at her shiner and you might think again. She keeps everyone in line, including the boys. Maybe it's because she drives a sled better than most of the boys.
	Micaela is our resident student-athlete, also from Calgary. If she isn't on the track, then she is surrounded by textbooks and studying in the lounge. But I have found that she can be easily lured away from the books by meals or movies. Or to watch me polish my runners. Or polish them for me.
	Shannon is our indomitable spirit. She has two kids and has to make her way from Toronto to wherever the action is. If she can raise kids, work full-time, work out and travel all over North America without going insane, you better watch out for her on the track.
	And then there is Michelle. How can mere words describe this bright and shining athletic prodigy? Not to mention stunning good looks. And remarkable intelligence. Really, it's just a coincidence that she was assigned the handicapped room at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center ...
