December 20: That must have been my evil twin sister on the first run
Sheesh. That was a bi-polar day if I ever had one. I was the 10th slider of 16 women. I got off to a good start on my first run, with a PB on my push time, a respectable 5.39 seconds. And it all went downhill from there ... no really. Skidding through straighaways, hitting possible every wall out of every possible corner, dragging my head along the ice. I am pretty sure I scared more than one unsuspecting spectator along the way. It was a 53.55 second brainfart. There was a commentator for the race and rumour has it there was at least one "Oww ... that must have hurt" and probably a "Well that's not going to help her time." Let's just say I didn't finish in the top 15.
The second runs always go in reverse finish order based on your first run, so I was first off. Pushed a 5.42, went 126.2 kph and PB'd by over a second with a down time of 52.32.
I'm sorry, what was that? Oh, WHY THE HELL COULDN'T I HAVE DONE THAT ON THE FIRST RUN TOO, you ask? Well, the stars didn't really seem like they were aligned properly, ya know, so I thought I'd wait for tomorrow to pull it together. Also, my racing suit was a little bit wrinkly and I didn't want to go to the podium looking all frumpy.
