We last left off with our protagonist arriving in Whistler after a 1,125km, 19-hour drive through apocalyptic weather, only to find herself 1,125 km away from her preferred geographical location, and 24 hours to get there. Driving was not on the list of preferred travel methods.

We last left off with our protagonist sitting in the parking lot of a Timmie's, halfway through a 12 hour drive home, having found out only moments earlier that she needed to be back in Calgary in 48 hours. But there were some complicating factors.

We last left off with our protagonist sitting in her trusty station wagon at a rest stop in Golden, BC, having only moments earlier found out that she had, to her surprise and delight, been named to at spot on the national skeleton team.

OK ... so, you think the point of the story would be, I got a spot on the national team ... whoopee, congratulations, the end.

Not so quick. The saga is only beginning.

Here is a picture from the selection races in Whistler, because I don't really have any other eye candy to grab your attention, and the block of text that follows is visually mind-numbing. I figure even my backside is better to look at ...

After the selection races in Whistler concluded last week, I packed up Fiona the Ford and headed out to Calgary, for a second set of selection races, one of which doubled as the 2009 Canadian Championships.

The week of training and racing can be summarized by my subsequent collection of Facebook posts:

Michelle Bartleman Loscher ... does not have feelings of love toward the Calgary track ...
