So here we are. In a town with almost as many residents as my former university. In a town where we have no jobs, no car, no friends and no furniture.

Wait, why are we here again?

Oh yeah. We moved here to be near a track that isn't built yet for a sport I haven't actually done. That's right.

Leaving the nest ...

Well, I am moving up in the world of flight instructing: Yesterday I soloed my first student.

I had been well trained by the other instructors in the art of pacing the length of our tarmac, radio in hand, from one side of the building (to watch the downwind leg of the pattern) to the other side of the building (to hold my breath and wait for them to pop back into my sight as they make the turn from base to final).

June 15: Under Armor all the way! (Or at least when it's on the sale rack)

For my pseudo summer camp, I got myself a warm long sleeved Under Armour shirt.

I have decided that in my Olympic endeavor I will wear exclusively (and by exclusively I mean when I can find last season's gear on the clearance rack with a deodorant stain that boasts an extra 15 percent off) Under Armour gear, in hopes that one day, when I am a famous Canadian skeleton athlete, they will sponsor me and in turn offer me unlimited access to an entire Under Armour wardrobe free-of-charge.

Okay, getting to Calgary from Anchorage is about as easy as going southbound on a northbound service road.

One would think Anchorage-Vancouver-Calgary (or as I prefer, ANC-YVR-YYC), what's the problem?

The problem this route only exists for the independently wealthy.

For the recent-college-grad-paying-off-pilot-licenses, the route is Anchorage-Seattle-Denver-Calgary, with a Calgary-Salt Lake City-Anchorage return.
