September 27: Ask me what I did today
What's that? Oh, you are wondering what I did today? Well, funny you should ask. I sat in this tub of ice water for 12 minutes. It was fun. In a sitting-in-a-tub-of-ice-water-for-12-minutes kind of way.
"Champagne?!? What is there to celebrate?
Crumbly-ness?"

I can't be sure, but I am working with the theory that Calgary has a little bit of a traffic problem. I can't really pinpoint what gave me the idea. Maybe its that people use the words "highway" and "parking lot" interchangeably around here. Or maybe it was the TWO HOURS I SPENT GOING NOWHERE while actually trying to get somewhere yesterday morning.
So I am back in Calgary for a training camp. The first thing we had was a meeting of people involved in the women's skeleton program. Of course, almost everyone lives and works in Calgary and some sliders weren't able to make it to the afternoon meeting. So who was there? Let's see ... Olympian ... Olympian ... Olympic bronze medallist ... world cup winner ... and me. THE ENTIRE WORLD CUP TEAM. And me. FOUR OF THE BEST SLIDERS IN THE WORLD. And me.
I gotta be honest. I felt a little outclassed.
Well, you can't say I didn't finish off the season with a bang ...
So, Sunday was the National Championships, and the culmination of my first skeleton season. The race was ... uhh ... how do I put this .... um ... fast. A little too fast actually.
As they say, "Go big or go home." I decided to do both.
All week I have been totally sucking in training. Of course it's my first time at the big kids sliding sessions, with World Cup and Europa Cup athletes there. And what do I do? I push the slowest start of my life. I am in dead last on every single run. I fall off my sled in the outrun. I drop my Nalgene bottle and dump a liter of water all over a world cup athlete's gear. It's like I am the special ed kid in the integrated class.
