March 1: OK, really, who does this?

Everyone thinks this warning sign at the top of the track is for tourists and teenage boys. It's not. It's for the athletes. Normal people don't need a sign posted at the top of a 1500m frozen water slide to tell them that crossing the start line will likely result in an injury.

So. My certain injury of the day: I fell off my sled AFTER I crossed the finish line. WHO DOES THAT? What, I can hold on to the damn sled at 110 kph, but when I slow down to speeds of, say, 30, I fall over?

February 25: Why Team Canada does not race in sweatsuits

On Saturday night, one of my teammates, Micaela, asked us to help her out with a school project. So we slid wearing sweatshirts and pants over our speedsuits to see how much slower it would make us. Would you believe I had a personal best run? Well, I didn't. I went two seconds slower. Which is too bad. Because I was really warm and comfortable.

February 18: NEWSFLASH ... Going down the track ON your sled is much faster

I had another race today, a local event called the ASA Cup, the last in a series of three. With the help of a giant pipe wrench and some strategically-placed duct tape,* I decided to pull myself together enough to redeem myself from Saturday's, ummm ... incident. Did you know that sliding across ice at 98.4 kph leaves some unique bruise patterns on your ass? Well, you'll just have to trust me. Jason wouldn't let me post the picture.

February 17: The suit is fine, I repeat, the racing suit is OK

So this weekend I raced in an invitational series in Calgary. Yesterday I had a personal best finish time on my first run, a personal best start time on my second run and finished third. Today I tied my personal best start time, was in 2nd place at the halfway point, on track for another PB, then flipped upside down, lost my ride, went screaming down the straightaway at 98.4 kph on my ass and busted my sled. Needless to say, I was disqualified for not crossing the finish line with my sled.
